First Bus x Aberdeen FC - Millie & Grandpa

More Aberdeen fans than ever using First Bus to travel sustainably to Pittodrie on matchdays

First Bus has unveiled a heart-warming new video to celebrate its partnership with Aberdeen Football Club as more Dons fans than ever before take the bus to matches.

Aberdeen football fans are entitled to FREE matchday travel to home games on any First Bus services and the operator has seen this drive a huge proportion of new bus users on board with over 40% continuing to travel by bus after using the offer for their first journey.

A long-term supporter of Aberdeen FC, First Bus is working collaboratively with the club to encourage supporters to make more use of public transport and to travel sustainably, while also helping Aberdeen FC towards its goal of reducing its carbon footprint by 50% by 2030 and achieving net zero by 2040.

Supporters can continue to take advantage of the free matchday travel across all home matches during the 2023/24 season with zero emission buses serving all routes that pass the stadium.

Ticket holders will receive a promo code ahead of each match, sent via email by the club. This code offers 100% discount on a First Day Adult Ticket when redeemed at checkout on the First Bus App.

To help celebrate the success of the partnership and the famous connection between the club, the city and its fans, First Bus has launched its brand new film titled 'A Matchday Tradition' which follows Millie as she uses the bus to travel to the match with her grandpa.

The film follows the pair as they make their way from their home to Pittodrie, collecting fellow fans and mascot Angus the Bull along the way. Millie and her grandpa even get to meet star midfielder Leighton Clarkson as they arrive at the stadium before the game.

The free travel offer is only available to fans who have signed up to the club mailing list and is available to access via the First Bus App only. This offer cannot be used for tickets purchased on board the bus and is only valid to redeem on match days.

The First Bus App is free to download and allows fans to plan their matchday journeys, as well as track their bus in real-time.

Graeme Macfarlan, Commercial Director for First Bus Scotland, said: “We are delighted to see our partnership with Aberdeen FC continuing to go from strength to strength as more fans use the bus to travel to and from games in a safe, easy, environmentally friendly way.

“To see so many new customers trying the bus to get to the stadium on matchdays, then continue to use the bus in the days, weeks and months afterwards is fantastic and shows how attractive bus travel really can be.

“First Bus as a business is rooted in Aberdeen. It is the birthplace of our company and our partnership with the football club not only further encourages people to choose public transport as their preferred method of travel, but also helps the club towards its sustainability targets.”

Robbie Hedderman, Aberdeen FC Commercial Director, added: “Our partnership with First Bus continues to be a real driver of success and it is really encouraging to see increasing numbers of our supporters opting to travel by bus to Pittodrie.

“Through innovative collaborations like this with our valued partners it enables the club to make football more affordable for our fans, whilst also allowing them to travel to matches in a safe and sustainable manner.

“Perhaps what is more heartening is the rise in Dons fans opting to travel by First Bus after using their first offer. Clearly, there is an appetite amongst our fans for such offers and it is rewarding for us as a club to see First Bus benefitting from the relationship with Aberdeen FC, paying further testament to the benefits of working in partnership with the football club to make positive change in the local community, whilst also enjoying enhanced brand awareness.”
